followed up his course success from last time, improving again, yet another testament to how good his trainer is at sorting out horses that aren't quite delivering; handy, took keen hold, smooth headway entering straight, led last, kept on well; was following Brampour in winning this for Nicholls under a 7-lb claimer on his second start at 4 yrs, but hopefully for connections will have a better future, that horse failing to win again.

Winning Owner: The Brooks, Kyle & Stewart Families

Time: 4m 0.6s Closing Sectional: (4.05f): 56.00s (106.1%)

A very competitive renewal of this valuable prize, though there was a lack of pace and a muddling feel to the result, for all that some of the more likely runners came to the fore, the race developing really only after 2 out, the gallop having steadied after the second; there are interesting runners for similar events down the field, though the form overall may not prove the most reliable.

OLD GUARD followed up his course success from last time, improving again, yet another testament to how good his trainer is at sorting out horses that aren't quite delivering; handy, took keen hold, smooth headway entering straight, led last, kept on well; was following Brampour in winning this for Nicholls under a 7-lb claimer on his second start at 4 yrs, but hopefully for connections will have a better future, that horse failing to win again.

TOTALIZE had been showing useful form on the Flat this year and ran creditably on his first start over hurdles since 2013/14, needing no excuses; handy, led briefly early in straight, one paced run-in.

DEVILMENT making handicap debut, ran creditably, a shade better than the result; held up, travelled well, headway after 2 out, short of room home turn and approaching last, no extra.

REDERA (IRE) ran respectably in first-time tongue strap, well held twice on the Flat since his last run over hurdles, though his move into the race perhaps promised more than he delivered; waited with, smooth headway before 2 out, not quicken before last.

NABUCCO had been seen to good advantage at Ascot last time and wasn't able to match that effort, on softer ground than previously over hurdles; handy, mistake second, ridden 2 out, weakened straight.
