took kindly to the combination of first-time cheekpieces and a forceful ride, producing a smart performance and easily the best run of his career so far; made all, travelled well, went clear early in straight, eased final 50 yds; headgear needs to work again next time but he'd look well in if turned out under a penalty.

Mazzini took this handicap with a dominant display and career-best effort but all the others, apart from the runner-up, ran below form, and even he didn't look to be putting it all in.

MAZZINI took kindly to the combination of first-time cheekpieces and a forceful ride, producing a smart performance and easily the best run of his career so far; made all, travelled well, went clear early in straight, eased final 50 yds; headgear needs to work again next time but he'd look well in if turned out under a penalty.

SIGN OF THE KODIAC (IRE) back up in trip and returned to all-weather after 8 weeks off, bounced back to form but didn't convince under pressure; prominent, ridden over 2f out, carried head high, one paced.

UDONTDODOU up 6 lb for winning over C&D last time (with Mazzini in behind), failed to repeat that effort, though not helped by being made to come wide on the home turn; mid-division, forced wide home turn, plugged on straight.

KADRIZZI (FR) in first-time tongue strap, is merely ticking over at present; tracked pace, effort over 2f out, not quicken.

DUTIFUL SON (IRE) is operating below best at present; mid-field, driven over 2f out, one paced.

BROTHER TIGER shaped better than the distance beaten suggests; patiently ridden, headway home turn, not sustain effort.

RUSSIAN SOUL (IRE) wasn't in the same form as last time, needs things to drop his way; very slowly away, in rear, never on terms.

UPAVON back under favoured conditions, seems to have gone off the boil; prominent, ridden over 2f out, weakened.

STANGHOW again blew the start but was unable to recover this time; awkward leaving stalls, raced off the pace, never dangerous.

LEADER WRITER (FR) shaped as if needing the run on first outing since leaving H-A. Pantall after 4 months off; close up, ridden approaching 2f out.

CAPTAIN LARS (SAF) after 4 months off, shaped as if amiss; held up, eased before halfway.
