didn't need to improve to resume winning ways, his main market rivals below form; got restless in stalls and slowly into stride, soon recovered to be prominent, ridden over 1f out, stayed on to lead close home; far from fully exposed he is certainly a contender for the 3-y-o sprint on Good Friday, though more will be required to topple the likes of Portamento and in particular Hawkesbury, the latter having dismissed him comfortably at Kempton last month.

the only filly in the field, acquitted herself well back in stronger company, seen to good effect from the front; led, shaken up over 1f out, kept on well, headed close home.

back down markedly in trip, again ran creditably, admirably consistent in recent months and versatile to boot; in touch, ridden over 1f out, stayed on; should continue to give a good account.

form levelled off during a 7-race juvenile campaign, but this was an encouraging return after 3 months off, dropped out from the widest stall and finding himself left with plenty to do in relation to the front 3 as a result; in rear, pushed along 2f out, kept on, never landed a blow.

developed into a useful sprinter at 2, fourth in the Cornwallis when last seen, and shaped better than the bare result making all-weather debut after 4 months off; soon steadied, took strong hold, headway over 1f out, keeping on when hampered final 1f, never a threat, not unduly punished; sure to benefit from the outing, he is expected to get a lot closer to the winner should they meet again on Good Friday, next month's qualifier at Wolverhampton a potential stepping stone.

transformed by the blinkers when winning his last 2 starts at Kempton impressively, the latest 8 weeks earlier, proved disappointing in his attempt to complete the hat-trick, the switch to 5f not the issue, caught wide, though his previous quirks are worth remembering; in touch, ridden over 1f out, edged left, not quicken, faded.

faced a stiff task, the drop in trip not an obvious move and he was predictably well held; chased leader, went with little fluency, folded over 1f out; will be suited by a return to around 7f, though does have something to prove with regards his overall well-being (now failed to beat a rival on last 3 starts).

Some useful performers in the line-up for this latest Fast-Track Qualifier, the form having substance amongst the principals for all it didn't take as much winning as anticipated, few landing a significant blow and 2 of the more fancied runners, most notably the short-priced favourite, failing to meet expectations.

MERDON CASTLE (IRE) didn't need to improve to resume winning ways, his main market rivals below form; got restless in stalls and slowly into stride, soon recovered to be prominent, ridden over 1f out, stayed on to lead close home; far from fully exposed he is certainly a contender for the 3-y-o sprint on Good Friday, though more will be required to topple the likes of Portamento and in particular Hawkesbury, the latter having dismissed him comfortably at Kempton last month.
