might have benefited from being kept to small fields so far over fences, but it's still hard to knock his strike-rate (5 wins and 2 second places from 8 starts under Rules) and this latest success suggests he's still on the upgrade, too; raced in third early, took closer order eighth, went on circuit out, pressed on from end of back straight, kept on well latter stages and had bit in hand.

was in a race that produced barely enough of a test for him and ran well in the circumstances - he should remain competitive off this sort of mark if kept to 3m+; disputed lead early, shuffled back before 5 out, struggling in fourth briefly leaving back straight, rallied well from 2 out but always coming off second best.

retried in headgear, wasn't in the same form as last time; disputed lead, took over fourth, remained prominent once headed circuit out, driven from home turn, folded approaching last.

A stop-start gallop contributed to a significantly slower time than for the earlier veterans event but interesting form all the form, with both principals appealing as staying chasers who'll continue to pay their way.
