had seemed stretched by this trip on softish ground at Newbury but got back on the up with the emphasis more on speed; pressed leader, led on bridle over 2f out, quickened clear, comfortably; he's useful, but will have little option other than to take on similarly useful types after a rise in the weights for this.

gelded since his previous outing 6 weeks earlier and minus headgear, ran his best race for some time dropping into a 0-90; raced off the pace, shaken up over 3f out, headway under pressure approaching final 1f, stayed on, took second late on.

was sent off a short-priced favourite on handicap debut but couldn't advance his form any further; prominent main group, close up 4f out, left behind by winner from 2f out, not quicken; this was rather a messy race and it won't be surprising to see him do better in a more evenly-run contest.

shaped as if still in good form, the way this developed probably not suiting his come-from-behind style; steadied at the start, held up, took keen hold, rapid headway 4f out, not quicken from 2f out, all the while carrying his head rather high under pressure.

again failed to confirm the form of his Lingfield win, possible that it was slightly flattering; made running, joined entering straight, headed over 2f out, one paced.

was well held on first outing since leaving George Boughey for just 2,500 gns, still looking headstrong; dropped out, took strong hold, rapid headway 4f out, dropped away over 2f out.

Not an especially satisfactory handicap the way it was run, Ridgeway and Anmaat soon establishing a clear lead before the pace steadied drastically at the end of the back straight, the field bunching right up for a furlong or so, but such was Anmaat's superiority that he'd have clearly been best at the weights however it was run.

ANMAAT (IRE) had seemed stretched by this trip on softish ground at Newbury but got back on the up with the emphasis more on speed; pressed leader, led on bridle over 2f out, quickened clear, comfortably; he's useful, but will have little option other than to take on similarly useful types after a rise in the weights for this.
