has a quirk or 2 but can't be knocked form-wise and, in first-time blinkers and hood, improved a bit to get off the mark for the season, probably doing quite well to quicken from last to first; dwelt, raced off the pace, headway out wide entering final 1f, stayed on to lead final 50 yds; he'll remain competitive from a mark that can't go up much.

got back on track, benefiting from the drop back in trip and the lowering of his sights (handicap debut), only a little more improvement needed to defy this mark; prominent, took keen hold, effort under 2f out, every chance final 1f, one paced.

the short-priced favourite, wasn't disgraced but didn't run any better than last time, early keenness maybe leaving him short for the finish; mid-division, took strong hold, shaken up 2f out, not quicken.

A borderline useful set of 3-y-os, most of whom are set to remain competitive; the pace set by the runner-up took a little more than a furlong to pick up.
