THE DOYEN CHIEF (IRE) was progressive when last seen and still looked ahead of his mark on his return, just outstayed by one that probably benefited from playing his hand last of all, that pair coming well clear of the remainder; waited with, typically travelled well, closing when mistake 4 out, close up home turn, produced to lead between last 2, awkward last, headed run-in but stayed well clear of rest; will remain of interest.

RICHMOND LAKE (IRE) had undergone a breathing operation yet shaped similarly to when last seen at Aintree 7 months earlier, again failing to get home having looked a big threat turning in, this test beyond him stamina-wise above and beyond any concerns over his wind; waited with, took strong hold, not fluent seventh, upsides 3 out, headed before last, weakened.

HOLD THAT TAUGHT who hasn't stood much racing in recent times, wasn't disgraced after another 10 months off; taken wide, prominent, untidy eighth, struggling leaving 3 out, lost touch soon after.

SOME SCOPE went without the cheekpieces that had threatened to spark a revival when last seen and shaped as if needing the run after 6 months off, showing up well for a long way; soon led, headed fifth, upsides again home turn, faltered after 2 out.
