left his chasing debut form behind from 3 lb out of the weights, seeing the track again within 6 weeks for the first time aged 10 in a career that promised so much in his days as a strong-galloping novice hurdler but has ultimately been undermined by training issues; waited with, smooth headway from 3 out, shaken up after next, quickened to lead soon after last.

nearly but not quite so fragile as the winner, was surely the best horse at the weights to get close to overcoming such waywardness, the engine very much there but the steering certainly not; made running but jumped badly right and also hung that way, joined briefly 5 out, ridden approaching straight, still in front approaching last but headed soon after it, understandably left behind by winner final 50 yds; assuming he continues to stand racing, he'll surely win again, likely to look a good thing in fact on a right-handed track.

showed something closer to his hurdles form this time, the bulk of his ability evidently still there, though the fact he'd missed a further 3½ months tells its own story; chased leader, jumped right seventh, upsides briefly 5 out, ridden home turn, every chance 2 out, no extra flat.

took a step in the wrong direction on the back of a big reappearance, possibly finding the race coming too soon; held up, jumped sketchily, pushed along 3 out, left behind approaching straight.

underachieved all the more relative to his lofty hurdles merit, the longer trip far from a valid excuse, likewise a lost shoe; in touch, lost place when shaken up 4 out, lost touch quickly end of back straight.

Not the race it promised to be, chiefly due to the errant jumping on show, especially from a front-running favourite who still managed to see off all bar an even more infrequently sighted rival, with one not far behind in that category just behind.

LESSER (IRE) left his chasing debut form behind from 3 lb out of the weights, seeing the track again within 6 weeks for the first time aged 10 in a career that promised so much in his days as a strong-galloping novice hurdler but has ultimately been undermined by training issues; waited with, smooth headway from 3 out, shaken up after next, quickened to lead soon after last.
