Non Runners: GALLANT OSCAR (IRE), BENVOLIO (IRE). Fences: 27.

Winning Owner: Mr T. J. & Mrs H. Parrott

Time: 8m 6.8s Closing Sectional: (2.50f): 38.00s (98.5%)

An 11-y-o edging a tight 3-way finish suggests this wasn't the strongest running of Scotland's leading handicap chase, more so with the handful of novices - a contingent with a good record in the race - by and large failing to make much of an impact, those notably better than the bare result also rather thin on the ground; plenty never figured in a well-run race, though the ground the second and third made from behind suggests a hold-up ride wasn't quite the disadvantage it has sometimes been in this down the years.

WAYWARD PRINCE benefited from the step back up in trip and produced his best effort for a good while to resume winning ways, as at Doncaster in February doing everything right, arguably looking like winning with more authority for much of the straight; in touch, jumped well, travelled well, led before 3 out, looked in control 2 out, closed down run-in, driven out; it remains to be seen whether this spell of form can last any longer, though it's to the credit of his owner-trainer that she's got 2 big handicaps out of this late-career renaissance.

GOONYELLA (IRE) looked to have gone up more than enough for his Midlands National win but is unexposed as a thorough stayer and ran a cracker under these less testing conditions, showing bottomless reserves of stamina; mid-division, pushed along twenty-first, headway under pressure from 4 out, chased leader last, stayed on strongly; he got no further than the first on his only try over the National fences at Aintree but will be well worth trying back there next season.

BENBENS (IRE) claimer ridden, hasn't won this season but has acquitted himself well more often than not and proved at least as good as ever, seeing out the trip surprisingly well considering he'd seemingly failed to get home over 29f a couple of times in the winter, albeit on much more testing ground; held up, headway twentieth, blundered 4 out, chased leader last, stayed on.

AMIGO (FR) turned up on another going day and ran at least as well as last time from a 3 lb higher mark back at a meeting where he's won before, though seemed to run out of puff late on over this longer trip; close up, travelled well, led nineteenth, pushed along 4 out, headed before next, no extra flat; he's never won over fences in Britain, prone to a shocker as he is, though clearly has the ability to put that stat right.

CATCHING ON (IRE) remains in good form and did well to finish where he did taking into account a sketchy round of jumping, probably still on a good mark; dropped out, all but came down sixteenth, rider lost irons, not fluent eighteenth, twentieth, headway under pressure 4 out, plugged on, never nearer.

BROADWAY BUFFALO (IRE) shaped as if still in good form but didn't see the trip out so well as in the NH Chase, this race run at a stronger gallop; in touch, travelled fluently, pushed along 4 out, weakened before last; he's still an interesting one for handicaps from a mark in the low-140s.

AL CO (FR) who won this race last year, never looked like repeating the trick a week on from an early departure in the Grand National, jumping part of the problem; held up, jumped none too fluently, headway fourteenth, blundered twenty-first, no further impression.

HARRY THE VIKING found run of good form coming to a halt, the ground probably firmer than ideal and unable to hold his place in a bigger field/better race; in touch, lost place early final circuit, no further impression.

DROP OUT JOE second to the winner at Doncaster in February, shaped like a stayer then but seemed not to get home over 6f further; mid-division, in touch after fourteenth, mistake nineteenth, ridden before 4 out, weakened.

LIE FORRIT (IRE) after 9 weeks off, had winning run ended, never really in the hunt on ground firmer than ideal; mid-field, beaten twenty-first.

YES TOM (IRE) a non-stayer in this last year, never got involved this time around.

BAILEYS CONCERTO (IRE) wasn't sure to stay but never got out of the rear, a blunder at the twenty-first finishing him off.

CAPE TRIBULATION ran poorly in first-time cheekpieces, never threatening to improve from mid-field and pulled up early on the final circuit.

CARLI KING (IRE) wasn't in same form as last time, finding this better race much harder to dominate off fully 12 lb higher than Warwick, lack of stamina maybe coming into it as well; led until nineteenth, blundered twenty-first, soon beaten.

COGRY shaped as if still in good form; mid-field, in touch circuit out, blundered twenty-first, pushed along 5 out, plugging on in fourth when fell next.

GLOBAL POWER (IRE) ran poorly; mid-field, made mistakes, in touch ninth, pushed along twentieth, dropped away next.

HOUBLON DES OBEAUX (FR) upped in trip, failed to complete, never travelling well on ground firmer than ideal and behind until falling at the eleventh.

INDIAN CASTLE (IRE) upped in trip, wasn't in same form as last time; in touch, lost place when pushed along from early final circuit, beaten soon after 5 out.

MAN WITH VAN (IRE) ran badly; in rear, soon off bridle, blundered eleventh, beaten long way out; lack of stamina not to blame.

MILBOROUGH (IRE) failed to complete; raced wide, held up, unseated rider eighth; a 10-lb rise for the Eider looks plenty.

RAZ DE MAREE (FR) under less testing conditions, wasn't in anything like the same form as when chasing home Goonyella at Uttoxeter; in rear, never travelling well, beaten long way out.

ROYAL PLAYER after 12 weeks off, was beaten by more than lack of stamina over 8f longer trip, another shocker in a big-field handicap; in rear, bad mistake seventh, beaten long way out.

SAM WINNER (FR) has more good runs than bad runs to his name this season but isn't totally straightforward and just didn't fancy it in this race for the second year running; in rear, took little interest, beaten long way out.

SAMSTOWN back over fences and in headgear, ran badly; off the bridle long way out and always behind; reportedly lame.

SEGO SUCCESS (IRE) whose stable is struggling a bit, ran poorly making handicap debut; prominent, mistake twentieth, dropped away next.

SUMMERY JUSTICE (IRE) was in process of running poorly when departing; in rear, off the bridle long way out, not making first mistake when unseated rider eighteenth.

TRUSTAN TIMES (IRE) is interesting from this sort of mark, having finished third in this last season from 2 lb higher, but typically didn't jump well enough in a big handicap chase; in touch, mistakes fifth, fourteenth, seventeenth, driven before 5 out, in fifth when badly hampered next, not recover.

VINTAGE STAR (IRE) shaped similarly to last time; soon off bridle, in touch early, lost place gradually, struggling badly circuit out; ungenuine.

WIESENTRAUM (GER) failed to stay; mid-division, pushed along twentieth, weakened 5 out.
