got back on the up with the blinkers quickly removed; tracked pace, switched around 2f out, stayed on to lead inside final 1f, driven out; he saw this out strongly, as he'd done when winning his maiden, and is well worth another try at 1¼m, his only go at that trip coming at Royal Ascot.

back on turf, returned to form, coming from further back than the pair that beat him; mid-field, headway under pressure over 1f out, finished well; he'll get in the Cambridgeshire this time around (third in strong renewal of the consolation race as a 3-y-o), shaping on this evidence as if a return to 9f will suit.

There will be plenty of deeper 0-105s run at Ascot this season but this appeals as solid form, the winner a 3-y-o on the up and second in the form of his life, a couple in behind getting their seasons back on track.

SILVER QUARTZ got back on the up with the blinkers quickly removed; tracked pace, switched around 2f out, stayed on to lead inside final 1f, driven out; he saw this out strongly, as he'd done when winning his maiden, and is well worth another try at 1¼m, his only go at that trip coming at Royal Ascot.

ZWAYYAN proved better than ever, no shame in being beaten by a 3-y-o who took an even bigger step forward; prominent, travelled better than most, disputed lead over 1f out, headed inside final 1f, not quicken.

FIRE BRIGADE back on turf, returned to form, coming from further back than the pair that beat him; mid-field, headway under pressure over 1f out, finished well; he'll get in the Cambridgeshire this time around (third in strong renewal of the consolation race as a 3-y-o), shaping on this evidence as if a return to 9f will suit.

SHADY MCCOY (USA) again ran his race but needs things to fall just right from this sort of mark, never better than mid-field here; mid-field, effort 2f out, one paced.

GURKHA FRIEND wasn't disgraced, this 1m course not favouring his front-running tactics nearly as much as Ripon's; disputed lead, driven over 2f out, headed soon after, one paced.

EXAMINER (IRE) took a step back in the right direction after 4 months off, this a pleasing enough return, and he'll be fresher than most heading into the autumn; raced off the pace, switched over 2f out, effort flattened out.

POET'S SOCIETY after just 6 days off, ran one of this season's lesser races; disputed lead, faded over 1f out.

LA RAV (IRE) has plenty to prove at present, losing his action on his reappearance and never dangerous here having been notably easy to back; held up, shaken up under 2f out, made no impression.

C NOTE (IRE) fared little better in first-time cheekpieces; prominent, dropped away from 2f out.
