proved better than ever, benefiting from less competition for the lead than anticipated, his jumping once again a big asset, every sign that he's still on the upgrade; jumped superbly, went with zest, led until seventh, led again tenth, clear 3 out, ridden approaching last, ran on; he's confirmed himself fully effective at 3m under these conditions and, although another rise in the weights is inevitable, he seems sure to go well again.

ran creditably, a rise of 10 lb for his win last time probably enough, this a more demanding track than he's used to running on too; waited with, pushed along sixteenth, labouring before 3 out, kept on again after 2 out, took third last.

shaped as if retaining all his ability after 7 months off, looking effective over 3f longer trip, though the manner in which he seemed to lose interest on the second circuit was a bit disconcerting; held up, ridden and lost place fourteenth, plugged on straight, looked less than straightforward; he's still lightly raced over fences and may yet have more to offer, though perhaps worth a try in headgear.

less exposed than the rest and well supported with his stable going better this season, was well held after 7 months off, losing out on the battle for the lead with the winner; pressed leader, led eighth, ninth, mistake fourteenth, effort 3 out, weakened next; he probably shouldn't be judged too harshly on this, a race where he gets his own way obviously ideal.

As usual a big field for this valuable pot, featuring quite a few interesting contenders, though not many were at their very best on the day, largely due to the dominance of the winner, taking advantage of a less contested pace than might have been expected, his jumping a big asset on this track, few of his rivals getting in a blow, the third and fourth just closing up late on.

GO CONQUER (IRE) proved better than ever, benefiting from less competition for the lead than anticipated, his jumping once again a big asset, every sign that he's still on the upgrade; jumped superbly, went with zest, led until seventh, led again tenth, clear 3 out, ridden approaching last, ran on; he's confirmed himself fully effective at 3m under these conditions and, although another rise in the weights is inevitable, he seems sure to go well again.
