set the clear standard after his dominant Lockinge win and didn't have to raise the bar again to follow up and record his third Group 1 win, but it's testament to his temperament and constitution that he's maintaining these very high standards, underlining his versatility too having shown top-class form on soft ground last time and doing this on firm, and he won with a bit more in hand than the winning distance suggests too, dossing in front, without a rail late on like at Newbury; always prominent in the main group, he travelled strongly and made good headway to lead over 1f out as the pacemakers dropped away, idling then (edged left and right) but finding more when the runner-up briefly got to his quarters and just kept up to his work; the 3-y-o milers will present a new challenge but none of them can match his form at this stage and he's rightfully a short price in the ante-post market for the Sussex Stakes, a race he was arguably unlucky not to win last year.

could be excused his low-key return 3 months ago - probably went into that race short of peak fitness having missed his intended prep - and, without the headgear this time, was back to his high-class best, giving absolutely everything he's got for another placed effort in Group 1 company; mid-field, travelled strongly, good progress from 3f out, chased leader approaching final 1f, briefly got to within less than a length but one paced as Ribchester found a bit more; he'll continue to give a good account and is equally effective from 1m to 1¼m.

was trying something a bit different, dropped back to 1m and refitted with headgear, both for the first time since his 2-y-o season, and he more than coped, running at least as well as ever; prominent in the main group, headway over 2f out, carried left approaching final 1f, kept on; this excellent effort at 1m increases his options for the rest of the season.

hit the frame in 3 Group 1s on the spin last year, so although she was sent off a big price this by no means comes from out of the blue, gradually brought back to her peak this time around and showing it in a strongly-run race that suited; raced off the pace, headway under pressure over 2f out, stayed on; her 2 wins have been on softer than good but this proves that much faster ground is no problem.

All 16 ran.

Winning Owner: Godolphin

Time: 1m 36.6s Closing Sectional: (2.00f): 24.60s (98.2%)

There was a large field for the 2017 Queen Anne Stakes but it wasn't absolutely full of quality, Ribchester the only European Group 1 winner amongst them, and although Deauville, American Patriot and Miss Temple City had all won Grade 1s in the US they had all been relatively weak races for the top level; Toscanini was put in the field by Godolphin as a pacemaker, as had Qatar Racing's Dutch Uncle, and that pair tore off clear, essentially ignored, but still ensuring a strong pace in the main group, and it was a fair race all round, no doubting the result, whilst a course-record time adds substance for all that the very firm ground was obviously a big contributing factor.

RIBCHESTER (IRE) set the clear standard after his dominant Lockinge win and didn't have to raise the bar again to follow up and record his third Group 1 win, but it's testament to his temperament and constitution that he's maintaining these very high standards, underlining his versatility too having shown top-class form on soft ground last time and doing this on firm, and he won with a bit more in hand than the winning distance suggests too, dossing in front, without a rail late on like at Newbury; always prominent in the main group, he travelled strongly and made good headway to lead over 1f out as the pacemakers dropped away, idling then (edged left and right) but finding more when the runner-up briefly got to his quarters and just kept up to his work; the 3-y-o milers will present a new challenge but none of them can match his form at this stage and he's rightfully a short price in the ante-post market for the Sussex Stakes, a race he was arguably unlucky not to win last year.

KASPERSKY (IRE) has quickly found his feet in Britain, confirming here that he's back to his best, running as well as he could in face of a stiff task; dropped out, headway 2f out, kept on without threatening.

DUTCH CONNECTION returned from 8 months off with a respectable effort, thrown in at the deep end to start his season and doing enough to suggest that he retains all of his ability; mid-division, shaken up over 2f out, headway over 1f out, one paced; all of his wins have been at 7f and the Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh next month looks an ideal target back at that trip.

COUGAR MOUNTAIN (IRE) ran a fairly typical race, not up to the task but running respectably, plugging on from a long way back without ever landing a blow.

OH THIS IS US (IRE) wasn't disgraced in face of a stiff task in this grade and almost certainly remains in good form; dropped out, headway over 2f out, one paced, never dangerous.

LIGHTNING SPEAR had finished second to Ribchester in the Lockinge but disappointed back on much firmer ground; raced off the pace, went with little fluency, laboured progress 2f out, made no impression.

JALLOTA was flying too high in this grade and produced a rare below-par effort; held up, effort over 2f out, weakened final 1f, not unduly punished; he's the type to bounce back quickly.

AMERICAN PATRIOT (USA) had won a Grade 1 in the US 10 weeks ago but this was much deeper and didn't perform; mid-division, lost place over 2f out, dropped away.
