was able to race from the same mark as last time (already due a 3 lb rise) and didn't need to improve to go one better after idling; held up, shaken up over 3f out, good progress out wide 2f out, edged ahead approaching final 1f, idled to give runner-up another chance but then asserted final 50 yds; given the margin involved the handicapper may not put him any more than he's already set for, which will leave him on a competitive mark, and the Cesarewitch appeals as the obvious target for later in the season, the distance no object.

ran well, ridden handier than usual, and his consistency is hard to knock; tracked pace, took strong hold, had to wait for gap approaching 2f out, challenged entering final 1f, no extra final 50 yds; likely to continue in form.

ran up to her best on belated return to handicap company and desrves extra credit given how much she was given to do, further behind the winner turning in than she was at the line; dropped out, still plenty to do 3f out, stayed on, nearest at the finish.

again shaped better than the bare result, unlucky not to finish closer, third or fourth best on the day; mid-division, keeping on when hampered around 2f out, lost crucial momentum and unable to quicken after; it is a long time since he won, so not one to go overboard with, but his current mark is fair and he clearly retains just about all of his ability.

Solid staying handicap form, the pace picking up far enough out to ensure a fair test, and a pair that arrived in good nick and with some good efforts in similar events this season to their name came to the fore.

SEA OF HEAVEN (IRE) was able to race from the same mark as last time (already due a 3 lb rise) and didn't need to improve to go one better after idling; held up, shaken up over 3f out, good progress out wide 2f out, edged ahead approaching final 1f, idled to give runner-up another chance but then asserted final 50 yds; given the margin involved the handicapper may not put him any more than he's already set for, which will leave him on a competitive mark, and the Cesarewitch appeals as the obvious target for later in the season, the distance no object.
