1 - COPPER KNIGHT
Tough and consistent sprinter who has added another couple of victories to his name at York this year. Not disgraced in face of some stiff tasks of late and fancied to give his running again.
2 - OXTED
Boasts some strong form, notably his second at listed level behind Khaadem at Newbury (6f) in May. Mixed bag has followed subsequently but his latest Newmarket second was very much a return to form.
3 - DAZZLING DAN
Progressive 3-y-o who confirmed himself a smart sprinter when adding to his tally at Newmarket (6f) last month, always holding on from Oxted. 5 lb higher now but he's of interest nevertheless.
A sparkling performance from Dazzling Dan to land the Unibet Handicap @NewmarketRace for Pam Sly and David Probert— Racing TV (@RacingTV) August 17, 2019
The winner was tipped up by Steve Jones on the Full SP Preview on Racing TV earlier today pic.twitter.com/CHQFcMcn7n
4 - MARNIE JAMES
Excellent start for new yard when chasing home red-hot Dakota Gold at York (5.4f) at the Ebor Meeting. Not disgraced when third behind that rival on worse terms since and worth a second look here.
5 - ARECIBO
Three-time winner in France who opened account for this yard at Ayr (5f) in July. Solid efforts on 4 of 5 starts since, second in 8-runner Haydock handicap latest. Each-way claims now blinkered.
6 - MUTHMIR
Each of his last 2 victories have come at Group 2/listed level but not kicked on from his cracking return fifth in Epsom "Dash" this season. Did land this race from same mark in 2014, however.
Far from disgraced in highly-competitive handicaps prior to resuming winning ways at Sandown (5f) last month. Remains on a competitive mark and booking of Dettori catches the eye.
Thriller of a finish, as JUSTANOTHERBOTTLE, who powered from the gates, just gets up to win the opener at @Sandownpark, for trainer Declan Carroll and jockey William Buick!— Timeform Live (@TimeformLive) August 31, 2019
8 - GUNMETAL
Won 3 times in 2018, including Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon. Looked as good as ever initially this term and handicapper has given him a chance. Booking of O'Brien catches the eye.
9 - OPEN WIDE
In top form, successful at Windsor in June and hitting frame all 5 starts since, beaten under 1 length in to third at Ascot (6f) last week. Yet another holding sound each-way claims.
10 - GREEN POWER
Back to form with a bang in recent weeks, landing back-to-back Goodwood handicaps at 5/6f in determined style. More on plate in this big-field affair but current form entitles him to respect.
11 - MAKANAH
Improved again this campaign, adding to the tally at Musselburgh (5f) and dispelling a lesser effort with a fine effort behind Dakota Gold at York (5.4f) last month. Further progress not ruled out.
12 - WATCHABLE
Approaching veteran status now, but has already won 3 times this year. Another good effort when fifth in big field at York last month but he's still 4 lb above last winning mark.
13 - KONCHEK
Useful juvenile who ran best race for some time when 2 lengths fourth of 10 in a Newmarket handicap (6f) in July. However, suspicion is he has little leeway from present mark.
14 - EMBOUR
Has had a good year, winning 3 times, and again ran well when 1 length third of 11 at Sandown (5f) 2 weeks ago. Present mark does demand that little bit more in a race like this, however.
15 - A MOMENTOFMADNESS
Won 3 times last season, including this race from 4 lb higher mark. Largely underwhelming efforts initially this term but his latest York sixth very much signalled a return to form. Interesting.
Fine front-running performance from A Momentofmadness!— Timeform Live (@TimeformLive) September 15, 2018
William Buick dictates in the Portland Handicap @DoncasterRaces, taking the first race on the card of St Leger Day!
16 - EQUITATION
Holding form well this year, and put it all together to post a career-best when scoring at Ascot (6f) 8 days ago. Everything went right then and more on his plate in this sort of affair.
17 - BIELSA
Unbeaten 4-y-o who made it 3-3 in good style at Thirsk (6f) last month, tackled final 1f but keeping on well. Came clear with the runner-up then and he remains open to improvement. Highly respected.
18 - SHOW STEALER
Winner of back-to-back Windsor handicaps earlier this summer and hard to knock efforts in defeat from inflated mark subsequently. However, she may find a few too good once more.
19 - TERUNTUM STAR
Ended losing run from a sliding mark at Beverley (5f) in April but essentially struggled for form thereafter. Has joined a yard adept at rejuvenating sprinters but hard to be overly enthusiastic.
20 - ORVAR
Capitalised on reduced mark over C&D on his penultimate start and similar form when finishing well to grab seventh at York (5.4f) 4 days later. Strong gallop to aim at will aid his cause ideally.
21 - MUSCIKA
Ran well when fifth in this race 12 months ago and back on the scoreboard at Thirsk (6f) in May. Largely gave his running since and each-way possibilities at likely longer odds.
22 - WENTWORTH FALLS
Consistent during light 2018 campaign, third in this race from 4 lb higher mark. Similarly frustrating in defeat this time around but clearly got the ability to play a part if the cards fall his way.
Now operating 4 lb below the mark he was successful from in this race 12 months ago, A MOMENTOFMADNESS signalled he may well be coming to the boil at the right time when a close-up sixth at York last month. Again partnered by William Buick, he could be worth chancing to confirm the promise of that run. The unbeaten Bielsa, Marnie James, Dazzling Dan and Wentworth Falls head up the dangers.
