Flat: good-topped colt: very smart performer: second in Derby at Epsom (½ length behind Anthony Van Dyck) in June: dropped markedly back down in trip, 4/7, capitalised on drop in grade when won 7-runner Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown last time by 1½ lengths from Zuenoon, cosily: will prove suited by 1¼m: acts on soft and good to firm going: often races towards rear.

back down markedly in trip, capitalised on the drop in grade to get off the mark for the year, this not telling us anything new about him but likely to leave him spot on for bigger targets later on in the year, the Irish Champion Stakes reportedly next up; waited with, came wide straight, stayed on to lead well inside final 1f, won cosily; will prove suited by 1¼m.

narrowly denied at Epsom, is much better than he could show here, essentially having a hopeless task from his position; raced well off the pace, took strong hold, brief headway early in straight, one paced; will presumably drop back to 1¼m next time.

upped markedly in trip, stepped up significantly on his run in the Guineas, by a miler, but the son and grandson of Derby winners, his grandsire the ubiqiutous Galileo, going like the best horse for much of the straight and just outpointed by a stronger stayer, a fair chance that he'll prove best at 1¼m though he could surely win a good race at this trip; held up, travelled strongly, stumbled briefly home turn, good progress early in straight, led 2f out, ridden after, headed well inside final 1f, kept on; a rematch with the winner in the Irish Derby wouldn't be a foregone conclusion, though supplementing for the Eclipse might be a better option.

back at 1m and away from soft ground, had his chance in the main group and ran his race, just losing out to the third as he overhauled Ten Sovereigns late on, entered in the Derby and certainly worth a try in a trial over further than 1m, one of the best of these on looks and in excellent shape beforehand; raced centre, in touch, effort 3f out, not quicken over 1f out, rallied final 100 yds.

down in trip after 7 months off, lost his unbeaten record but emerged with his reputation fully intact, no disgrace in losing out to the race-fit winner who was in receipt of 3 lb; chased leaders, produced to lead entering final 1f, collared final 50 yds, pulled clear of rest; remains open to improvement.

confirmed the good impression made on debut in the manner of one destined for big things, settling matters in a manner of strides early in the straight and always doing enough thereafter, more superior than the winning distance would imply; chased leaders, travelled best, quickened to lead over 1f out, won readily; an exciting prospect who possesses plenty of physical scope, he will be on the Guineas trail next year.

(by Dawn Approach: third foal: dam, 2-y-o 6f winner who stayed 1¼m, half-sister to useful 9f winner Daymooma) made plenty of appeal on pedigree and looked something out of the ordinary on debut, showing a good turn of foot to settle the race late on; in touch, headway approaching straight, shaken up approaching final 1f, quickened to lead inside final 1f, kept going well; sure to progress and win more races.
