is as exciting a 3-y-o colt as there's been this season, unbeaten in 5 starts now, each time readily stepping up as he's climbed the ranks to Group 1, winner and he landed this with a lot in hand, despite having not settled fully through the early stages until Dettori took back and got cover, still seeing out the longer trip well to win in a course record time; he jumped out well but was lit up so quickly steadied back to have only two behind him after 2f, then about 4f out Dettori switched him towards the near side, ensuring a clear run as he opened up his big stride and made good headway to lead by the 2f pole, given just one tap of the whip to assert and going almost 4 lengths clear before eased down towards the finish; he has more than enough speed and class to drop back to 1½m - a top-class prospect and the most exciting St Leger winner in recent years - and he looks set to be campaigned more over middle distances rather than go up to staying trips next year.

only made his debut in mid-May, the same time his rivals were running in (and in some cases winning) Derby trials, which puts some perspective into the strides he's made, this latest jolt of improvement suggesting he has the raw ability to go right the way to the top; he showed signs of his inexperience, a little out to his right at the start and looking a shade fresh back from 7 weeks off, also edging right once he had the contest in his grip, a tussle with Constantinople (who'd moved into the race at least as well as Logician) having proved even briefer than could have been expected, Dettori's use of the whip minimal as his mount was relentless once he'd got rolling; his pedigree is a superb cross of some of his owner's very best recent horses, by Frankel out of a half-sister to Cityscape and Bated Breath, and he was rightly made a short-priced favourite to provide his sire with a second domestic Classic of the year following on from Anapurna's success in the Oaks, the St Leger trip unlikely to pose a problem.

completed the hat-trick in impressive style, making a mockery of his opening mark, value for plenty extra on top of the winning margin, too, and he looks a graded horse in the making; waited with, tanked along, headway to lead over 2f out, soon clear, eased final 50 yds.

didn't need to improve to defy a penalty, workmanlike compared to his debut, but he got the job done and is still unexposed; never far away, produced to lead 2f out, driven over 1f out, asserted approaching last ½f; he'll be well suited to 1½m and remains one to be positive about.
