didn't answer the question one way or another as to whether he's got the gears for premier Group 1s over this trip, unfair to judge him on this given his draw and position (towards the rear), but he lacked the acceleration of others when it mattered, doing his best work at the finish, running left in him, more the stayer on the face of it.

had this date for a long time, probably back when he was being prepared for the Derby, a different horse since Epsom, the Queen's Vase (for a second year since its upgrading) opening the floodgates for the best stayer of his generation, Kew Gardens a very good winner of the St Leger in historical terms, the best since Conduit in 2008 by Timeform's reckoning; all the work he'd done over 2 seasons in getting here (including involvement in 7 Group events) gave him a professional edge on Lah Ti Dar that was apparent at the crucial stage of the race, a decisive difference between them, rationalising their relationship but the weighty performance that shut the door on her was all Kew Garden's doing, taking some stoking up himself but marching to the front 2f out and strong to the end, edging left towards the rail after produced wide, down the middle of the track; his style and skill-set suggests he'd need the emphasis on stamina to win an elite Group 1 over 1½m in 2019, and maybe he's more in the mould of Order of St George, that position now vacant within Ballydoyle.

didn't have it easy carrying a 5-lb penalty for his Group 1 win last month and matched the improvement he'd shown that day, shaping encouragingly with an eye on the St Leger, especially when bearing in mind he'd missed the King George in the interim with a slight setback, plausible then that he'll come on a bit for this, and having given him a lot to do Moore wasn't unduly hard on him late on; raced well off the pace, still plenty to do 3f out, headway over 1f out, stayed on; he showed the depths of his stamina when storming clear in the Queen's Vase so there's little doubt he'll be suited by a return to 1¾m+ and, as a stayer, he remains with potential.
14 Jul 18 Lon Group 1 1/6 1.25 Turf G1 11.9f Good Ryan Moore 14/10f /- 4k 118 131
was back down in trip but far from being vulnerable at it showed further improvement, probably only just coming to himself now and very much going the right way; patiently ridden, travelled well, joined issue with the others before leading over 1f out, Ryan Moore just needing to give him a few taps behind the saddle to shake off the persistent runner-up in the closing stages; he'll go on improving, and his stamina's proven for a St Leger bid, though he could be facing high-class older rivals in the King George next at the end of the month.

had the form to win this, at least with stablemate Nelson not running to his best, but in doing it so emphatically he's credited with some improvement, clear that he relished the extra 2f; held up, travelled well, headway over 5f out, led approaching final 1f, edged right to the rail and stayed on strongly; he has more potential as a stayer and this obviously puts him in the picture for the St Leger, although before that connections may be tempted to have a crack at the Goodwood Cup in receipt of a big 3-y-o allowance, sure to stay 2m.
2 Jun 18 Eps C1 Group 1 9/12 27 Turf G1 12f Good Donnacha O'Brien 16/117 23.7 -/13 1 106.6 89 79+ 92+
backed at long odds, had beaten the runner-up in clear-cut fashion in the Zetland Stakes last autumn, but he hasn't gone on in anything like the same way, well held after playing a major role in the leaders overdoing things in front; led 2f, close up after, led briefly again home turn, weakened quickly 3f out; he'll benefit from a drop in grade, though has questions to answer.

was fitter for last month's reappearance and came back to his best, beating all bar the well-ridden winner comfortably, the longer trip within reach; prominent, chased leader over 2f out, hung left over 1f out, driven, edged right, kept on; he's probably in the second tier at best at Ballydoyle, possible he won't even make the Epsom team, but he's a smart colt who is proving consistent.

failed to meet expectations but still showed enough to be positive about on his return from 6 months off, not given anything like a hard time starting his campaign over an inadequate trip (will stay 1½m); mid-field, ridden 2f out, not quicken for hand riding; he should come on for this reappearance and there's more to come as his stamina is drawn out, so he remains with potential.

had acquited himself well in pattern company the last twice, but fared better still, dropped slightly in grade, well backed to do so, relishing the longer trip; led, shaken up over 2f out, stayed on strongly final 1f; will stay 1½m; he's bred to come into his own over middle distances at 3 yrs, typically for his yard looking to thrive on racing, and as such open to further improvement.
24 Sep 17 Naa Group 2 4/5 2.70 Turf G2 8f Soft Donnacha O'Brien 4/15 6.2 -/3 1 93 109 122
under a change of tactics, did nothing wrong on this occasion, but could only run to a similar level to last time; made running, headed entering final 1f, no extra, had the run of the race.
9 Sep 17 Leo Group 3 2/10 3.00 Turf G3 8f Gd/Sft Seamie Heffernan 10/111 14.5 -/11 3l 101.4 106 104 117
made another leap in form, but it wasn't all positive, allowing for the pressures of better company, losing his place quickly at halfway, maybe tuning out as much as outpaced, looking on the ungainly side, but, to his credit, rallying in the final 1f, the rider doing more cajoling than driving.

upped in trip, progressed as expected from debut - form that is working out quite well - landing the odds with the minimum of fuss; prominent, led on bridle over 2f out, won readily; sure to progress further and win more races.
7 Aug 17 Cur Mdn Stks 7/13 6.5 Turf M 7f Gd/Frm Seamie Heffernan 7/18 12.51 -/13.5 3s 105.7 73 75+ 88+
(by Galileo: seventh foal: half-brother to 3 winners, including smart 6f-1m winner Thawaany (by Tamayuz) and useful 5f/6f winner Pale Orchid (by Invincible Spirit): dam winner up to 1½m (2-y-o 7f winner)) made plenty of appeal on paper but looked green; dwelt, mid-field, headway 2f out, effort flattened out, not unduly punished; will improve.
