was soon under pressure out wide and still struggling when blundering at second Valentine's.

wasn't in the same form as on his reappearance here 7 weeks earlier, though the winner that day did nothing for the form in this, either; in touch, untidy fifth, ridden after eleventh, beaten thirteenth.

amateur ridden (subject of a late jockey change after his intended rider had been stood down following his win in the previous race), proved at least as good as ever after 12 months off, during which time he'd had a breathing operation, seemingly lacking something in sharpness in relation to the winner, though flattered by his proximity to that one at the line; chased leaders, not fluent ninth, outpaced briefly early in straight, took second last, stayed on.

wasn't in the same form as last time, his jumping not quite slick enough when it mattered to keep him in contention; close up, not always fluent, took keen hold, mistake eighth, weakened 3 out.

who came up short when fancied for a couple of big handicaps in the spring, got the job done this time after 7 months off, his jumping, which hasn't always stood the test, largely holding up well, particularly when needed in the straight; never far away, went with zest, baulked first, not fluent second, untidy fifteenth, jumped on 2 out, came up long at the last, ridden out and always just holding on; his fragility means he's very lightly raced for his age and he'll remain of interest for other big handicaps.

turned in a lacklustre display after 6 weeks off, a far less encouraging effort than a frame finish might suggest; mid-division, lost ground ninth, labouring from early final circuit, rallied straight, made little impression; he's evidently hard to get right physically.
12 Mar 19 Chl C1 Hcap F/24 Chase 145 25f Soft (t) Harry Cobden 9/110 13.43 -/9 4 99.1 ?
was all the rage for this ante post after his encouraging return at Sandown 6 weeks earlier (but much more easy to back on the day, that form having taken a few knocks), and, though not up to the task, shaped as though he'd remain of interest for something similar with this extra experience under his belt, provided he's none the worse for this; held up, mistake sixth, crept closer fifteenth, in contention 3 out, left behind soon after, held when taking a tired fall at the last (lay on the ground for a little while).

after 15 months off, shaped very well on what was effectively just his second start over fences, looking ahead of his mark for a long way before fitness told; handy, travelled well, close up when mistake 3 out, weakening when not fluent next; remains open to improvement, provided he continues to stand training, though he has some very ambitious entries (Gold Cup, Grand National) and would surely be overfaced if asked to tackle tasks that demanding.

quickly put his Kelso aberration behind him as he got off the mark over fences, looking a complete natural and a smart novice in the making; soon led, jumped well, travelled well, tackled approaching last, shaken up there, asserted quickly, won easily.

making chasing bow after 6 months off, had looked an exciting prospect and is best still treated as such despite an all-too-brief and ignominious first appearance in this sphere, leading until jinking right and unseating the rider after the second.

in first-time tongue strap after 12 weeks off, wasted no time getting back on track and it reflects well on him that he could show improved form considering the drop back in trip probably wasn't ideal; chased leader, not always fluent, went on 3 out, headed next, rallied strongly to assert run-in, well on top finish; open to further improvement and looks an exciting novice chase prospect for 2017/18.

is better than this, unbeaten in a point, bumper and hurdle previously, looking a good prospect each time, and he's still unexposed and well worth another chance for all that this was disappointing up in grade; raced wide, mid-division, chased leaders 4 out, outpaced approaching 3 out, weakened.

a bumper winner in Ireland, looked potentially useful in making a successful debut over hurdles on first outing since leaving Donal Coffey after 9 months off and clearly possesses plenty of stamina; chased leaders, travelled well, not fluent seventh, led 3 out, untidy 2 out, drew clear before last, won easily; will stay at least 3m and looks sure to progress in this sphere.
