almost certainly found the test inadequate in first-time cheekpieces, though the likelihood is that he isn't on top form at the minute, anyway; in rear, left behind from 5 out, behind when awkward 3 out.

is better known as a chaser and doesn't look well handicapped over timber; chased leader, lost ground 4 out, weakening when untidy 2 out.

can have this run ignored, his race effectively ended with a terrible early error, though he was also reported to have bled from the nose; mid-field, chance-ending mistake first, tailed off sixth, pulled up after next.

was value for finishing closer, already having come off second best in his tussle with the winner but still second - a couple of lengths up on Give Me A Copper - when thumping the second last; tracked pace, untidy eighth, upsides thirteenth, held in second when clouted 2 out, tied up late on; that's 3 times in a row this season he hasn't shown his best, however.

took a step forward from his return and he ought to be spot on next time; held up, crept closer tenth, hit 4 out, in contention between 3 out and 2 out, no extra latter stages; remains with potential.

probably needed the run after 8 months off, shaping well for a long way, impressing with his jumping until his absence perhaps began to tell in the dash for home; settled mid-field early, went prominent third, blundered 5 out, shaken up after, weakening when not fluent 3 out; he should flourish this season, only his second as a chaser following such a bright start (both wins on soft ground) in 2019/20.

had beaten a next-time-out handicap winner at Doncaster and, having been strong in the betting, was on his way to making a successful start in graded company when he came to grief, likely to have won by a couple of lengths had he stayed up; handy, travelled fluently, produced to lead approaching 3 out, asserted before next, in control when fell last; he's a really likeable type (had jumped notably soundly prior to coming down) and should be around in good handicaps for a long time, but there's more than a suspicion this was the best chance he'll ever have to win a graded race.

made it 2 wide-margin wins from his last 2 starts, proving suited by the longer trip; mid-field, travelled well, hit fifth, in touch after eleventh, mistake next, jumped on 3 out, clear last, ridden out; he'll be in a tougher handicap next time but has taken well to chasing and is entitled to progress a bit more.

was a different proposition to on stable/chasing debut 5 weeks earlier, the yard's horses going much better now, and bettered any previous efforts by a long way, impressing in every aspect of the performance; mid-division, travelled well, good progress between 5 out and 4 out, led before 2 out, in control when jumped left last, stayed on strongly; he has scope for plenty more improvement and, though set for a hefty weights rise, will remain of interest.

seemed beaten on merit even with a repeat of his Sandown handicap form 6 weeks on, though little disgrace in that up against a rival of Ask Dillon's calibre; tracked pace, pushed along home turn, kept on straight but no match for winner.

backed down from massive early-morning odds, built on the promise shown at Warwick to get off the mark after 8 weeks off to give his red-hot yard another winner, matching his fairly-useful bumper form; made all, tackled approaching 2 out, quickened clear soon after last, kept on well, driven out; benefited from the run of the race and the underperformance of some key rivals here but may well do better still (bumper form particularly strong).

(by Multiplex: third foal: dam maiden on Flat (stayed 1½m)) bred more for the Flat, actually displayed more stamina than speed, showing plenty of ability nonetheless; settled mid-field, outpaced 2f out, stayed on again late on.

Premium Horse Comment
Jumps: sturdy gelding: fairly useful form over hurdles: useful chaser: won handicaps at Leicester and Doncaster in 2019/20: in first-time cheekpieces, 7/1, below form when 31 lengths last of 5 to Espoir de Teillee in similar event at Newbury last time: stays 3m: acts on soft going.
