High Season (Timeform rating 83p)
Runner-up, 7½f maiden, Beverley, Wednesday 14 August
High Season boasts a fine pedigree - he's by New Bay and out of a listed winner who is a half-sister to Oaks winner Love Divine - and he made a promising start to his career at Beverley. High Season had to settle for second behind a Southern raider who had shown plenty of ability when third in a Sandown maiden on debut, but he stayed on well to pull six lengths clear of the remainder. He'll have no problem staying at least a mile and looks well up to winning a similar event.
Participle (84P)
Runner-up, 1m fillies' novice, Salisbury, Thursday 15 August
Participle boasts an excellent pedigree - she's by Frankel out of a half-sister to the top-class Kingman - and she made a highly promising start to her career when narrowly denied at Salisbury on Thursday. Participle looked set to collect when quickening up down the outside to hit the front inside the final furlong, but she lost the lead after running green and couldn't quite get back up despite rallying well close home. She looked like the best long-term prospect in the line-up and is open to significant improvement with this initial experience under her belt.
Scandinavia (94p)
Runner-up, 1m maiden, Newmarket, Friday 16 August
This is usually a significant contest and has a roll of honour that features Coroebus and Roaring Lion - from the time it was run as a novice - and is best known as 'the Frankel maiden'. There were plenty of well-bred juveniles from top yards in this year's edition and there's no reason not to take a bullish view of the form among the four that pulled clear in a soundly run race. Scandinavia still looked very green, despite having the benefit of a run under his belt, but it was encouraging how strong he proved inside the final furlong to get to within three-quarters of a length of the promising winner. He is likely to take another big step forward.
