Around The Tracks: A tip for each meeting on Saturday

Timeform provide a selection for each of the six meetings due to take place in Britain and Ireland on Saturday.

Caldwell Potter - 12:32 Navan

A fairly useful winner in bumpers last season, Caldwell Potter shaped well when filling the runner-up spot on his hurdling debut at Punchestown last month, sticking to his task well to pass the post just a length and a half behind It's For Me, a smart prospect who'd reached an even higher level in bumpers in 2022/23. That was an encouraging start to life over hurdles for Caldwell Potter and the form is the best on offer in this line-up. A couple of interesting hurdling debutants feature among the opposition, but Caldwell Potter should improve and rates a very solid selection to get off the mark at the second attempt.

High Game Royal - 13:02 Chepstow

High Game Royal returned from seven months off with a good second on his chasing debut at Warwick a few weeks ago, immediately bettering the fair form he showed in five starts over hurdles last season, including a victory at this course in April. He was beaten five and a half lengths at Warwick, but it looked like being closer than that for a long way before he was left behind by a fellow progressive type on the run-in, with the first two pulling fully 30 lengths clear of a next-time-out winner in third. High Game Royal is only 4 lb higher in the weights today and should take plenty of beating if improving as expected with that run under his belt.

Heltenham - 13:30 Aintree

Heltenham showed his wellbeing after seven months off when easily winning a novice hurdle at Wetherby last time, justifying short odds with the minimum of fuss as he drew clear on the run-in to win by seven lengths. Back over fences today, Heltenham remains with potential embarking on his second season in this sphere having quickly made up into a useful sort in six starts last term, producing his best effort when taking the step up in grade in his stride to complete a hat-trick at Newbury in March. He was an early faller on his only subsequent run over fences at Cheltenham in April and it's worth giving him another chance from what remains a generous-looking mark given how progressive he'd looked previously.

JPR One - 13:50 Sandown

A tall gelding, very much a chaser on looks, JPR One was in the process of putting up a smart performance when he departed in unfortunate circumstances at Cheltenham last time. He jumped fluently in front and was around five lengths up at the last – and looking set to go further clear – when he stumbled after jumping the fence well and unseated his rider. This doesn't look much tougher despite being a Grade 1 and JPR One should mount a bold bid to gain compensation, especially when you factor in his scope for more improvement after just two starts over fences.

Fariha - 16:05 Newcastle

Fariha looked unlucky not to win when beaten a nose on her handicap debut over this course and distance last month, showing improved form in first-time cheekpieces to just miss out after meeting trouble. The most striking aspect of her performance was how well she finished, recording a notably fast closing sectional, but the damage had already been done when she was hampered over a furlong out. The steady gallop was probably against her, too, ending up further back than ideal, and it was a huge run under the circumstances which suggests she can win something similar from just 2 lb higher.

Follow Your Heart - 18:00 Wolverhampton

Follow Your Heart failed to fire in a couple of starts on turf in the summer, but he has been in good order since returning to the all-weather and arrives here on the back of three placed efforts at Kempton. He did well to finish as close as he did when third there last time, faring best of those held up in a race run at a modest tempo. Follow Your Heart was short of room over two furlongs out but kept on strongly when in the clear and clocked a good sectional time to mark him out as one to be interested in. He can launch a bold bid off the same mark.
