19:30 Windsor: Timeform preview and free Race Pass

ArticleImage

The 19:30 at Windsor on Monday is available as a free Race Pass, which means logged-in customers can view all our premium comments and ratings.

Windsor’s eve of Royal Ascot card features a couple of decent six-furlong handicaps and the one restricted to three-year-olds (19:30) looks the more manageable of the two, with a field of seven declared.

The only filly in the line-up is Queen’s Guard (104) for Michael Bell and she looks capable of giving a beating to her male rivals. Still lightly raced, she added to her Yarmouth maiden success last year when winning a five-runner handicap at Lingfield last time when stepped back up to six furlongs, quickening to lead in the final furlong and beating Invincible Speed by two and a quarter lengths. She’s been put up 7 lb for that near useful effort but that may not be sufficient to prevent her from winning again.

Chris Dwyer’s front-runner Jimmy Speaking (103) looks the main danger judged on his improved efforts when winning his first two starts this year at Chelmsford and Ascot. He didn’t show anything like the same form when fitted with cheekpieces at Kempton just five days ago, but they’ve quickly been discarded and he should be able to put that disappointment behind him.

Hot Trainer’ Karl Burke’s Beyond Borders (102) is a contender for place money. He enjoyed a very successful two-year-old campaign, winning four times in all and completing a hat-trick in nurseries in the autumn. While he’s found success harder to come by this term, he’s now only 1 lb above his last winning mark and shouldn’t be judged too harshly on his last run at Haydock where he was hampered at the start after a slow break. He also has the ‘Jockey Uplift’ flag with Oisin Murphy taking over in the saddle.

The Good Biscuit (102) won twice last season, and while he ran well when second on his reappearance at Leicester, he might have found the race coming too soon when fourth to Cool Dividend at Haydock last time, two places in front of Beyond Borders.

Salvuccio (100) is another bidding to regain the winning thread after ending his two-year-old campaign with a couple of wins. He was a slow-starting fourth to Trefor over course and distance a fortnight ago when without his usual cheekpieces and will need the switch to blinkers to bring out about some improvement if he’s to take this.

Top weight Aramram (97) makes his handicap debut for ‘Hot Trainer’ Richard Hannon but has been dealt a stiffish mark. He made all and showed a fine turn of foot to win a novice at Nottingham on his reappearance in May in impression fashion by six lengths but a subsequent defeat over seven furlongs in a similar event at Doncaster tempers enthusiasm for him.

Sky Warrior (100) won a maiden at Doncaster last summer but was possibly amiss in a handicap at the same track over seven furlongs last time having run his best race the time before when second over the same trip on the turf at Lingfield.

Timeform analyst’s verdict

The manner of Queen’s Guard’s recent success at Lingfield suggested that this 7 lb higher mark may prove within her reach. She is taken to confirm that impression by going in again here, with Jimmy Speaking likely to emerge as the chief threat if able to put last week's low-key Kempton effort behind him. Beyond Borders and The Good Biscuit can do battle for minor honours.
