On a low-key day of action, the most valuable Flat race in Britain on Thursday is the mile-and-a-quarter fillies' handicap (19:00) at Chelmsford which has attracted 11 runners.
Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings are headed by Prism (91) based on the form she showed when successful in a nine-and-a-half-furlong handicap at Wolverhampton in July. That contest was run at a steady gallop and the emphasis being placed on speed suited Prism who, on her first attempt at beyond a mile, quickened a length and three-quarters clear to score in ready style.
She has been disappointing on both starts since, failing to beat a rival home the last twice at Sandown, but she is potentially well handicapped based on her Wolverhampton effort, while the return to an all-weather surface might help her bounce back (she won a mile handicap here last year) so a bold bid can't be ruled out.
One with more solid claims, however, is Tamarama (89) as she arrives on the back of a couple of solid efforts, hitting the frame in mile handicaps at Goodwood and Newmarket.
Tamarama won at Beverley and Ripon prior to running too badly to be true in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot and she got back on track when fourth in a fillies' handicap at Glorious Goodwood, catching the eye with how well she finished after having to wait for a gap.
Tamarama again caught the eye when third at Newmarket on her latest outing, impressing with how powerfully she travelled, earning the Horse In Focus Flag to identify her as one to watch out for. That Newmarket race appeals as being a strong piece of form (the winner has won again since) and Tamarama, who is already proven over this trip, looks a major player off the same mark.
Midgetonamission (88) also arrives in good form as she won a mile-and-a-quarter handicap at Lingfield in August and followed that up with an even better effort in defeat when third at Sandown last month, finishing behind a subsequent winner and an unexposed filly.
Midgetonamission has had a busy campaign this term but looked better than ever at Sandown, where she pulled a long way clear of the fourth, and she ought to give another good account after edging up only 2 lb.
Adelita needs to bounce back from a disappointing effort here last month but has been given a chance by the handicapper and is now 4 lb lower than when competitive at Lingfield and Nottingham in the spring, while Tahasun is a course-and-distance winner and ran as well as ever when a creditable fourth at Lingfield last month.
Timeform Analyst Verdict:
After 7 weeks off, Tamarama again shaped well when third at Newmarket 19 days ago, catching the eye with how she travelled through the race. She can build on that effort to resume winning ways back up in trip, with Midgetonamission feared most in her current form. Prism completes the shortlist.
