16:20 Fakenham: Timeform preview and free Race Pass

ArticleImage

The 16:20 at Fakenham on Tuesday is available as a free Race Pass, which means logged-in customers can view all our premium comments and ratings.

Fakenham’s card features the Norfolk National (16:20), a 3m5f handicap chase with eight runners, including the placed pair from last year’s race, competing for a first prize of just over £13,000.

They’re an exposed bunch on the whole but Oliver Signy’s bottom weight Jigginstown King (Timeform weight-adjusted rating 129) is the youngest in the field at the age of seven and could be worth chancing stepping up in trip. He won on this card a year ago before going on to complete an early-season hat-trick at Fontwell and Stratford. The front-running Jigginstown King wasn’t disgraced last time when returning from four months off following a breathing operation, finishing third to Ingennio at this track last month. If he sees out this longer trip, he could be the one to beat.

Trincomalee (130+) is feared most for ‘Hot Trainer’ Lucy Wadham. He was useful in his prime and, while he failed to capitalise on some lenient handicapping when returning from a lengthy absence earlier this year, he remains potentially well-in. His best placing last term was when second at Sandown in February and the step up in trip should suit.

Top weight Court Master (131) represents another ‘Hot Trainer’ Neil Mulholland and is another likely to be up with the pace. Formerly useful when with Michael Scudamore, he was placed over both hurdles and fences last summer and should be fitter for a recent run at Cheltenham when sixth behind Manofthepeople following a six-month break.

Veteran mare Organdi (128) can’t be ruled out. She made the most of a falling mark when successful at Fontwell last September and ran well after four months off when a plugging-on fourth to Hymac at Cheltenham last time at odds of 66/1.

Christian Williams sends three runners on the long journey from Wales with champion jockey Harry Cobden taking the ride on Planned Paradise (?). He was consistent when with Neil Mulholland, including when finishing second in the London National at Sandown in 2022/23, but he made little show last season and will need the refitting of cheekpieces to perk him up, while he’s also prone to mistakes over fences.

Stablemate Strictlyadancer (133) had a mixed record last term after missing all of the previous season, though ran one of his better races when five lengths second to Tweed Skirt at Kempton just after Christmas and is on a 3 lb lower mark now.

The stable’s third runner Jony Max (128) has the ‘Horses For Courses’ flag after going down by half a length to Duc de Beauchene in this race last year and then returning to form under more positive tactics when successful over three miles back at Fakenham in November. He was possibly amiss when pulled up back here the following month but could bounce back after a break.

Wake Up Early (?) also has the ‘Horses For Courses’ flag after finishing a place behind Jony Max 12 months ago and is another who has been off the track since December but ran poorly in his last three starts so has plenty to prove.

Timeform analyst’s verdict

Jigginstown King wasn't disgraced after four months off when third here last month so could be worth chancing stepped up in trip up against exposed rivals. Trincomalee is feared most ahead of Court Master.
