Crepe Suzette (Timeform rating 87p)
Runner-up, 1¼m fillies' handicap, Salisbury, Tuesday 10 June
Crepe Suzette was a beaten favourite on her handicap debut at Salisbury but she likely would have won in another couple of strides and remains one to be positive about. She was ridden patiently but made steady headway from three furlongs out and missed out by only a head after finishing with a flourish. It's worth noting that she beat a couple of subsequent winners when getting off the mark in a Wolverhampton maiden in April and, even if she had to settle for second at Salisbury, she looks to have started out in handicaps from a lenient mark. She's out of Nassau Stakes winner Sultanina so her pedigree certainly offers encouragement that she can carry on progressing, while the way she finished at Salisbury suggests a step up to a mile and a half will suit.
Sudu (87p)
Fourth, 1½m handicap, Newbury, Thursday 12 June
Sudu was beaten three lengths in fourth on his handicap debut, but he looked unlucky not to finish closer and may well have made the winner work had he enjoyed better luck in running. Sudu, who had been gelded since last seen in February, travelled well and was upsides the winner over a furlong out, but he was held in by that rival and forced to switch to get a clear run. He never looked like getting on terms after conceding first run, but he kept on promisingly under a hands-and-heels ride and he remains completely unexposed over middle distances (he had previously raced exclusively at a mile).
Double Rush (103)
Third, 6f handicap, York, Saturday 14 June
Double Rush had to settle for minor honours in a typically competitive edition of this valuable sprint handicap, but he shaped well and remains one to be positive about. Double Rush was slightly slow into stride which prevented him from taking up a more prominent position, while he also found himself parked out on the wing from his wide draw, so he wasn't ideally positioned. He kept on well, though, to grab a place and showed enough to suggest that he remains fairly treated following a 5 lb rise in the weights for his cosy victory in a Newmarket handicap that looks strong form.
