My Timeform: Swindler a sprinter to follow

We've picked out three eye-catching runners from the last week of racing, including one who could soon by plying his trade in pattern company.

Quloob (Timeform rating 101) – Salisbury, 3rd September

Quloob seemingly hasn’t been the easiest horse to train, still lightly raced for a five-year-old, but he has ability and looks interesting from his current mark. A three-time winner when trained by Owen Burrows, he changed hands earlier this year for £23,000, and has caught the eye on both occasions for new connections. He shaped well after 12 weeks off in a useful contest at Ascot in July, and duly built on that promising first effort when beaten only a neck in third another six weeks on at Salisbury, left poorly placed given the way the race panned out and shaping like the best horse at the weights. Quloob finished strongly on that occasion, and could be ready for a return to 2m. He has an entry in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket next month, though he will need to go up in the weights to get a run there. Gary Moore

Mubakker (Timeform rating 108p) – Kempton, 3rd September

Mubakker cost $500,000 as a yearling and has a brilliant American pedigree, so it is no surprise that he has looked an exciting prospect on both of his starts on artificial surfaces. He shaped well on his debut at Yarmouth at the backend of last year, despite being friendless in the market, and he showed much-improved form to get off the mark on his next start at Wolverhampton, showing a smart turn of foot in the closing stages, leaving the runner-up for dead. It is his reappearance this season that marks him down as one to follow, though, impressively landing the odds under a penalty in a minor event at Kempton earlier this month, produced to lead under two furlongs out and quickening clear nicely to score by eight lengths. Mubakker looks ready for a higher grade now and, given his pedigree and effectiveness on artificial surfaces, connections may be obliged to go farther afield, with trips to the Breeders' Cup or Meydan possibilities down the line. Sir Michael Stoute

Swindler (Timeform rating 107p) – Ascot, 7th September

Swindler showed ability in a trio of starts as a juvenile last season, and landed a gamble on handicap debut/first start after nine months off at Ascot in July, showing much-improved form to run out a ready winner. He left the impression he wasn’t suited by the course at Newmarket on his next start, and he duly resumed his progression returned to Ascot on Saturday, again looking some way ahead of his handicap mark, travelling strongly before quickening up in good style in the final 100 yards. Admittedly, he will have to keep his quirks in check (had to be led to post and delayed start), but there's no doubt he possesses plenty of ability, and strikes at the type that will make up into a pattern-class sprinter down the line. Ed Walker
