My Timeform: O'Neill pair both look well handicapped

We've picked out eye-catching runners from the last week of racing, with two of them coming from the in-form yard of Jonjo O'Neill.

Cloth Cap (Timeform rating c136) - Ascot, Friday 22 November

Having his second start of the autumn after needing the run at Chepstow last month, last season's Scottish National third shaped encouragingly in finishing third behind shock winner Militarian in what looked a competitive handicap. Always handy and travelling well, Cloth Cap lost his place after the fourteenth, was ridden three out, chased the leader into the straight and was in second when not fluent at the last before proving one-paced on the run-in. After only six runs over fences, and proven over much further than three miles, Cloth Cap has a decent handicap in him before long. Jonjo O'Neill

Tedham (Timeform rating h130p) - Haydock, Saturday 23 November

Stepping up to three miles for the first time in the highly competitive Grade 3 Stayers' Handicap Hurdle, Tedham shaped well and is clearly a strong stayer whilst also evidently on a handy mark. Mid-division, he got shuffled back on the inside rail rounding the bend into the home straight but rallied between the last two flights and stayed on well to snatch third near the line, three lengths behind the winner Stoney Mountain who also stayed on strongly in a race that put the emphasis very much on stamina thanks to the pace being contested from the outset. Tedham remains open to improvement at three miles or more and is one to look out for. Jonjo O'Neill

Minella Indo (Timeform rating c138P) - Gowran Park, Saturday 23 November

Minella Indo was one of last season's leading novice hurdlers, winner of the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham and a Grade 1 at Punchestown, and shaped encouragingly over an inadequate trip sent chasing after seven months off. Coming up against another exciting recruit to fences in Laurina, who was more at home over the two and a half mile trip, Minella Indo chased the leader, jumped soundly and led briefly early in the straight, but was left behind by Laurina from two out. Not unduly punished once held, Minella Indo is the sort to improve markedly with the run/experience under his belt, particularly if returning to three miles. Henry de Bromhead

And a winner who passed the time test. . .

Ribble Valley (Timeform rating h134p) - Wetherby, Wednesday 27 November

Ribble Valley showed ability in bumpers last season, winning twice at Ayr, and he has created a fantastic impression since being sent hurdling. He had no problem justifying odds-on favouritism at Hexham on his reappearance, winning with any amount in hand, but took a huge step forward at Wetherby on Wednesday, beating a good field in style, easily defying a penalty. The time was 11 seconds faster than the opening juvenile hurdle over the same trip and it was clearly a useful performance from a horse ready for a crack at a higher level. Nicky Richards
