My Timeform: Dascombe and King Power Racing have a colt with potential in their ranks

We’ve picked out three eye-catching runners from the last seven days, including a once raced colt for Tom Dascombe and a thriving sprinter who can have a profitable winter.

Phuket Power (Timeform Rating 73p) - Sandown, 8 August

Tom Dascombe sent Phuket Power from his Chesire base on the long journey down to Sandown for his debut and would have been left highly encouraged by what he saw amongst signs of inexperience. This son of Kodiac was due to make his debut in a minor event at Glorious Goodwood - possibly a clue as to what regard he is held in by connections - but was ultimately withdrawn on account of the ground and re-routed to Sandown. After jumping slowly, he took a while to find his stride from the outside stall, displaying his greenness by having be to pushed along by Silvestre de Sousa to keep up with the field. However, he did start to learn on the job and picked up the bit for a few strides before being hampered just over a furlong from home and having to change his path and come widest of all. He made good headway once in clear daylight inside the final furlong and was beaten just two and a half lengths in fourth at the line. Being a speedily bred and well-related colt, notably a half-brother to the smart Rivellino, he looks as if he had inherited enough ability to be capable of winning a similar event in the near future. Tom Dascombe

Harry's Bar (Timeform Rating 106) - Chelmsford, 9 August

A full-brother to Mazzini - who gave these connections plenty of success on the all-weather whilst in their care - Harry's Bar is starting to follow in his footsteps by progressing through the handicap ranks. The drop to five furlongs on an artificial surface has seen him improve dramatically, taking each step up in class along the way in his stride, and he had little trouble overcoming the toughest assignment of his career to date at Chelmsford last time, posting a useful performance and value for more than the official winning margin. He raced well off the pace after a slow start, which he hadn't done in his previous performances, and was still faced with plenty to do when turning for home two furlongs out. The gaps opened in front of him at the right time, giving him a clear run through, but he still picked up well and was in command at the finish to win by a length. He will remain of interest next time and shapes as if it would be worth a shot at a valuable sprint handicap before the season is out, with an all-weather campaign during the winter also likely to be on his agenda. James Fanshawe

Clegane (Timeform Rating 76p) - Windsor, 12 August

Clegane caught the eye as a likely improver on debut at Kempton, when showing ample promise amidst greenness under a considerate ride. She made late headway to finish midfield, beaten just over four lengths at the line, and there was plenty of encouragement to be taken forward from that effort by connections. She then went to Windsor on Monday for her second start and still looked far from the finished article, travelling as well as any but soon running left under pressure, having also been short of room at a crucial stage, ultimately beaten a length and three quarters in a bunched finish. There was still plenty to be positive about, though, and she is a filly of definite interest going forward, with a step up to seven furlongs likely to see her in an even better light if racecourse evidence and her pedigree (half-sister to a seven furlong two-year-old winner) are anything to go by.
