The first bet arrives in Perry Barr’s early card, with BALLYMAC ENNIS (T5, 12.39) taken to gain reward for a very consistent spell having finished runner-up on his last three outings. The selection boasts a nice blend of early speed and stamina for the standard 480m trip here and the fact he rattled off a hat-trick during the spring confirms this veteran retains the will to win.
Later at Sheffield, EXPENSIVE ANNIE (T5) has been contesting sprint races so far in 2019, with some success at D3 level. The grader pitches her into A7 class on this return to four bends and that looks generous when you think she contested an A4 when last seen over this trip in December. She’ll hopefully establish a clear and unassailable lead in the 19.19 race.
It was slightly disappointing that UNIQUE BLAKE (T4) didn’t get the job done having let in a D1 sprint a week ago when sent off a strong favourite, but compensation should await in the 22.12. He holds the aces on the clock as the main dangers on his inside are more at home a notch below this in D2 company.
