SPECIAL BIG MIKE (Trap 6, 19.27) arrives on a losing run of 5 but his consistency is hard to knock and he may well be ready to strike again. Early pace is undoubtedly his biggest asset, and with claims of skipping clear early doors from the striped jacket, all looks set fair for a bold showing in a race lacking a great deal of depth.
Remaining at the Kent venue the Crayford Bookmakers Maiden Stakes features at 20.00 with BALLYNABEE LUCY (Trap 2) fancied to make a winning return to the track. A top-grade performer both here and recently Central Park she remains unexposed as a stayer and stands out from a ratings perspective, so all looks set fair for a big run.
We wait until Sheffield’s last race for our final selection and hopefully it will be worthwhile in the shape of SOBERANO PRINCE (Trap 6, 22.30). Not far off the veteran stage, he has been competing in stronger company in the main of late, and this does not appeal as being the strongest of A5 affairs. He’s at his best when able to turn handy and turn the screw from halfway, and drawn outside a serial slow starter that rates a distinct possibility.
