A race that set the tone for a day of total Irish domination, the first 5 home all trained there, as were all 7 winners on the day, with the home team managing to make the frame just twice in the 3 Grade 1 events, several of the main British-trained hopes performing dismally; as for the Triumph itself, the field finished rather too close together to take a particularly high view, the winner's performance no more than around average of those over the last decade, the race developing from the second last, the winner able to grab the rail in the straight, as his rider did in the following race as well, though he was clearly on the best horse and any advantage in that position was not the difference between winning and losing; the Spring Juvenile Hurdle, as so often in recent years, proved the key trial, the first 2 there filling the same positions here.
