A different test from the sort of pottering around in lesser races that most of the runners in this had experienced, and as so often it produced a winner at a double-figure price, though an unbeaten runner who was only that as the perceived stable second- or third-string, a big step up in trip proving right up his street, the race becoming a real slog late on, dour stayers taking third and fourth, 2 of the runners treated for post-race ataxia, the form of a similar standard to recent runnings; the race was marred by a fatal injury to Ginto when in contention in the straight, while the main British hope Hillcrest ran no race at all, his performance as sluggish as Shishkin's in the Champion Chase.
