An Ultima which had its rulebook somewhat ripped up despite the return to a maximum field, horses largely towards the bottom of the weights coming to the fore - 3 of the first 5 home running from out of the handicap due to the appearance of 164-rated Frodon - and a few of those ridden with early restraint having a say at the business end, none more so than the winner who arrived at the third last with many more in front than behind, his charge through the pack a feat made all the more meritorious given this wasn't run at the frantic end-to-end gallop of a typical Festival handicap; for all this didn't conform to normal practices, it can't be said the form is anything other than strong due to the novice domination, the well-fancied Death Duty in sixth the first one home of those to have raced over fences before this season.
