Bristol de Mai set to miss the Cheltenham Gold Cup

The news broke on Monday morning that the devastating Betfair Chase winner Bristol de Mai will miss the Cheltenham Festival in favour of a tilt at the Betway Bowl, a race he finished fifth in last season, beaten 24 lengths by Tea For Two.

The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained grey ran a fair race in the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham last time, but the flatter track at Aintree is expected to suit him better. The seven-year-old holds an entry in the Grand National too, but the bowl is his more likely target.
Twiston-Davies said “Everything is fine. We’re going to go to Aintree. He’s going for the Bowl, probably not the National.
“He is 100 percent.
“Blacklion is our main one in the National and he’s in good form.”
Bristol de Mai was a general 33/1 shot for the Gold Cup.
