What is a lucky 63 bet?

·       As expected, the 'Lucky 63' bet includes 63 bets across 6 selections. The bets which make up this multiple bet type are as follows; 6 singles, 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-fold accumulators, 6 five-fold accumulators and 1 six-fold accumulator. One winning selection in this bet type would lock-in a return, whilst 6 winners would lead to a generous return, as that would mean that all 63 individual bets within this bet type would be settled as winners.

Combination bets are betting types that allow people to make a wide selection of bets in one bundle. Lucky 63 bets are a form of combination bet that raise the number of bets being put together to 63. These 63 bets are made from six selections.

Lucky 63 bets must be placed on a number of different events and are typically available in sports such as horse racing, greyhound racing, rugby and football. This means that a Lucky 63 could not be placed on one single event. Instead, a bettor would have to select six different events (for example, six different football matches across a day or weekend) and make a different selection in each.

The Lucky 63 bet is so called because bookmakers such as Paddy Power and Betfair offer bonuses in certain circumstances. For example, if all the selections made were to win, some bookmakers would give the bettor an extra amount of money on top of their original return. This can make the Lucky 63 bet a very lucrative one for bettors who are well-informed about the sport and the field they are betting on.

Lucky 63 bets

As so many different selections are being made and there are so many bets being placed, the money being staked in a Lucky 63 is much higher than it is in many other bets. This is because each and every one of the bets being placed has to have a new stake behind it. So if the bettor were to place a stake of £10, they would actually be betting £630 under the conditions of a Lucky 63.

For this reason, it is critical that bettors understand exactly what they are betting on. Those who are not knowledgeable may find themselves making bad selections and therefore losing a large amount of money.

Within the Lucky 63 bet, a number of different kinds of bets are being made. There are 20 treble bets, 15 four-fold accumulators, six five fold accumulators, six single bets and a single six-fold accumulator. This means that even if just one selection wins then the bettor will make a return. The only scenario in which the bettor would lose entirely is if none of the selections won. Of course, the amount of money made in the return would depend on how many selections won; if all six selections won, the bettor would make much more money than if just one of the selections won.

It is easier to understand the terms of a Lucky 63 bet when they are applied to a real-world scenario. In this case, let's take a horse race. Under a Lucky 63, the bettor would pick out six horses across six different races. These could be:

  • Runner 5 in Race 1
  • Runner 4 in Race 2
  • Runner 8 in Race 3
  • Runner 1 in Race 4
  • Runner 7 in Race 5
  • Runner 9 in Race 6

Under the terms of a Lucky 63 bet, the bettor would make a return in a number of scenarios. If only Runner 5 won, or only Runner 1 won, or any other scenario in which just one runner won, the bettor would make a return because of the single bets that were placed. If any combination of two, three, four or five of the runners were to win, a return of varying size would be made too.

For example, if Runner 5 and Runner 7 were to win, that would be a win for one of the double bets, and two singles. If Runner 4, Runner 8 and Runner 9 were to win, the bettor would make a return on one of the trebles, three of the doubles, and three singles. One of the four-fold accumulator would make a return if four of the horses won, and the five-fold would make a return if five of them won, and both would mean many more wins on the smaller bets involved. Of course, if all the selections were to win, a very high return would be made because of the six-fold accumulator, and there are often bonuses paid out too, on any such win.

Other kinds of bets

There are a couple of other kinds of Lucky bets available to bettors. They offer a different number of bets and selections to bettors. In a Lucky 15 bet, the bettor is allowed to place 15 bets from four selections, and in a Lucky 31 bet they can place 31 bets from five selections.

Lucky bets are kinds of combination bets. Other examples include heinz bets and patent bets. This kind of bet is somewhat similar to a multiple bet, but there is a crucial difference in the stake. Bettors placing a multiple bet make one stake across a number of selections. To fund each selection, the winnings from the previous selection are put into the next selection. So, for example, if a multiple bet were put on Manchester United and Brighton and Hove Albion winning, the winnings from the Manchester United game would rollover into the Brighton and Hove Albion match.

Combination bets also require bettors to make a number of selections, but as they are also placing a number of bets, the stake is multiplied to cover each and every bet. If someone were placing a Lucky 15 bet and wanted a stake of £5, the final cost would be £75 and not £5 because that £5 is multiplied by 15.

Combination bets vary in size. With some, bettors make a small number of bets. However, some are very large indeed. Anyone who placed a goliath bet would be betting on eight selections and having a total of 247 bets. It would therefore be very, very expensive to make this kind of bet.

Whichever kind of combination or lucky bet is being placed, it is very important for the bettor to have a strong knowledge of what they are betting on. The high number of bets and the high stake that would be placed to cover each one of those bets means that there is a high chance of the bettor losing out if they do not think carefully about their selections.
