As on the previous day, the going wasn't so testing as the official (Good to Soft, Soft in places).

Over half the field failed to fire, tied in to the time of year, but the form among the principals is smart and solid, even if the gallop was steady initially, lifting from halfway, Kirklees dictating but trumped by his stable-companion. WITH INTEREST is still only a relative foot soldier for the yard but he's been more consistent than most all year and gained reward with a listed breakthrough, without promising to step up to the next level, catching Kirklees below par, but underlining his own good attitude by sweeping through then digging deep. KIRKLEES (IRE) will hopefully get going earlier in 2009 as there's few miles on his clock and probably another pattern win in him, obviously not on this bare form, run down late, but perhaps his big comeback effort at the last meeting here had taken the edge off him. BRONZE CANNON (USA) is back too late regards this season but it's good that he's back at all, absent since his Royal Ascot flop, and this renews hope of him making a better 4-y-o, still unexposed at 12f and emphasising here that it should suit him well, lacking a bit of speed in the finish, hence sandwiched by the first 2. DRUMFIRE (IRE), though tough, hasn't the form to win most listed/pattern races, but that's all he's been set in the second half of the season, generally giving his all like here. UNDER THE RAINBOW didn't battle when in with every chance, summing her up nowadays. LANG SHINING (IRE) has seemingly had enough for a year that started for him back in April, which proved something of a false dawn. DUNCAN went too freely with little pace on, but it's been a productive first season, with a better second one in the pipeline, certainly if his half-brother Samuel is any guide. MUTAJARRED has generally proved progressive but his runs have been spaced out this year and 2 of the last 3 put a question mark over him. GRAND PASSION (IRE) will soon be re-housed, but it looks as if a usual winter campaign has been in mind for him, probably needing this after an absence. JACK DAWKINS (USA) clearly had problems prior to Pontefract and they're not yet behind him based on this tame display, beaten before stamina came into play. SMOKEY OAKEY (IRE) must have been amiss.
