The official had the round course as Soft (Heavy in places) and just Good to Soft on the new sprint track for Haydock's biggest day of the year on the Flat. Conditions played a part in both of the feature events, Yes Mr President a wide-margin winner of the Old Borough Cup while Regal Parade outstayed Fleeting Spirit in the Sprint Cup.

Smart form and a well-contested listed event, a few of these better than the grade, including the winner, who was allowed to dictate, leading the field towards the stand side and pressing on under 3f out. CONFRONT hasn't needed to reproduce his Summer Mile form to record back-to-back listed wins, dictating and well on top at the finish here, despite edging left, the test conditions provided no problem for one who should stay 10f; he will have a lot more on his plate if taking his chance in the Prix de la Foret. BUSHMAN confirmed he's at least as good as ever, this a better race than he'd won last time, always well placed and proving himslef on the ground. DERBAAS (USA) had a stiff task back from a break and lost nothing in defeat, though he was always well placed and easily outpaced inside the last 2f, seeming more willing than last time nonetheless. MOYENNE CORNICHE isn't really up to this level and is a hard horse to place, but did just about as well as could be expected, particularly after racing quite freely early, further off the pace than the first 3, too. ROCK AND ROLL KID (IRE) is a smart handicapper and looked worth his place at this level on the back of his win in the valuable Tote Galway Mile, particularly as he's proven in the mud, but he ran no more than respectably. CHARLIE FARNSBARNS (IRE), who'd been gelded and off over 2 months, didn't get the run of the race again (held up), but might have been expected to do better, a Group 3 winner last season and unpenalised here. SMOKEY OAKEY (IRE) goes well under these conditions, but he has yet to hit top form this year and never threatened having been dropped out, needing to be switched and one paced thereafter. ORDNANCE ROW had been in top form in a higher grade the previous week, and there's every chance he wasn't over those exertions. RIO DE LA PLATA (USA), smart at both 2 and 3 yrs, placed in the French Guineas and Prix Jean Prat last season, was well backed on his first start for nearly 14 months and travelled well for a long way only to find little, the much softer conditions than previously a possible excuse.
