Godolphin relied on Kirklees in their attempt to follow up All The Good's win in this race twelve months earlier, while Cima de Triomphe was the other challenger from Britain; 3 jockeys, including Brad Rawiller on the winner, were fined after falling foul of the new whip rules introduced in Australia last month. VIEWED (AUS) defied top weight (off a BHA mark equivalent to 118), winning for the first time since last year's Melbourne Cup and providing a seventh Caulfield Cup for his trainer Bart Cummings (who also owned and trained the runner-up), held up, making good headway rounding the turn on the inside, getting a good gap against the rail and staying on well to lead in the final 150 yards; he has been given a 2-lb penalty for the Melbourne Cup, making him joint-top weight, and he'll be racing off an 11-lb higher mark than in 2008. KIRKLEES (IRE) ran just a fair race, not too well away but soon racing in mid-division, one of the widest round the home turn and staying on without ever threatening; he next tackles the Melbourne Cup. CIMA DE TRIOMPHE (IRE), having his third race in a row on a different continent, was again below form, racing just off the pace in about eighth place but beaten before the home turn.
