The ground was as the official again. The fillies took centre stage on the second day of the meeting, Spacious looking potential Guineas material in winning the May Hill, whilst the success of the progressive Hi Calypso in the Park Hill was the first leg of a 742/1 treble for Ryan Moore, Richard Hannon providing the other two winners.

With 4 of the field having at one time or another competed at the highest level, this was obviously a good-quality conditions event, though matters proved one-sided once Kirklees took over. KIRKLEES (IRE), sidelined since joining Godolphin at the end of his 2-y-o career, was smart for Mark Johnston, winning the Group 1 Gran Criterium on his final start, and he picked up where he left off with a smooth performance to justify favouritism; held up going strongly, he quickly settled matters once sent on halfway up the straight, winning with something in reserve; clearly well suited by 10f, he's now likely to go back up in company for one of the Group races at Longchamp over Arc weekend, and, a good sort physically, there's almost certainly better still to come from him; formerly a front runner, he settled well enough here, and he's effective also on firm and good to soft going. MANY VOLUMES (USA) has largely been in good form all season, and he actually improved significantly here in chasing the winner home, if unable to make any impression on him; he's well worth another try beyond 10f. SALFORD MILL (IRE), who looked in good shape for his return from a short break (suffered infection in foot following poorish run at Royal Ascot), wasn't far off his best, certainly not disgraced in trying to concede weight all round, typically waited with before staying on; he'll be suited by a return to further. GRAVITAS, formerly a smart performer in France for Andre Fabre, had subsequently seemed to show even better form on his debut for his current trainer in Dubai earlier in the year (ran poorly final appearance over there in March); however, he was again below his best, quickly in trouble once his stable companion had sailed by; he stays 12f and acts on heavy and good to firm ground. DUKE OF TUSCANY, tried in cheekpieces, seemed to acquit himself pretty well in face of a stiff task, though he did show an ungainly head carriage under pressure. BIG ROBERT, though last and never a threat, at least ran somewhat better than the time before. DONT DILI DALI, who got a bit warm beforehand, couldn't quite reproduce the pick of her form (which may well flatter her a bit).
